Simulation & Photography

Hyperreality – an image or simulation, or an aggregate of images and simulations, that either distorts the reality it purports to depict or does not depict anything with real existence at all, but which nonetheless comes to constitute reality.

Hyperreality uses semiotics to communicate a different kind of reality, one which is more interesting than the true reality of something we see in art or photography.

Gregory Crewdson, his method of using hyperreality is a form of creating a dramatic impact for the viewer, the use of a realistic world also the combination of an unrealistic world. Artificial lighting and large scale of production creates these challenging images. The dark nature of these hyperreality shots work very well, i find them intriguing and yet i feel my imagination is left to read them differently, from what is reality and what is not, imagination and the surreal these images draw me in and captivate me, taking me on a journey or a sense of an imaginary world.
